Dear Ebrahim,

I read your brief and interesting article on secularism. The article contents some passing references to technology and human curiosity to seek answers to many natural phenomenon in social [environment] existence as a turning point from metaphysic to scientific enquiry. This point is basically correct but it by itself does not explain how secularism has come into existence. A glance to ancient and pre-modern history of mankind, one finds ample secular ideas and movements, both no secular [and long-lasting] society. The question then is at what historical point and socio-political conditions that secularism become viable alternative explanations and imperative force in the development of secular societies.

I like to argue briefly that secularism and capitalism are closely intertwined, one without the other cannot exist. The degree to which a society has passed through capitalistic development can be taken as a measure to the extent which a society is secularised. To put differently, it depends on not only the development of force of production [technology] and relations of production [forms of work organisations] but also on the [metal and psychological] transformation that human receives in this mode of production [capitalism].
